Owls Use Six Different Goal Scorers To Extinguish Blazers, 7-0

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State University women's soccer team rolled to a 7-0 victory over Elms College on Wednesday night at Alumni Field.

The non-conference win brings the Owls to an even 4-4-1 on the year, and drops Elms to 6-5-1 overall.

Westfield used six different goal scorers in the win, with five of those goal scorers tallying their first goals of the year.

Junior forward Lydia Kinsman (Granville, Mass.) got the scoring going in the 5^th minute when took a tip pass from Juliana Templeman (East Longmeadow, Mass.) off a Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) corner and slid it past the Blazer goalkeeper for the early 1-0 lead.

Only five minutes later, Templeman added a goal of her own, picking up a loose ball from a scrum in front to put Westfield up 2-0.

It was all Owls right from the start, as they outshot the Blazers 6-1 in the first half, and went on to finish with a 19-2 advantage.

In the second half, the Owls exploded for five goals all in the span of 20 minutes.

Madison Dufries (Leicester, Mass.) got the scoring started in the second half when she tipped in a pass from Rennich for the 3-0 advantage. Dufries would go on to add another only two minutes later, as she blasted a shot from 20 yards out just over the fingertips of Blazer keeper Rebecca Molin (West Hartford, Conn.) to put the Owls up 4-0.

The offense continued for Westfield when Rennich ripped a shot off the crossbar and junior Alex Mello (Westfield, Mass. / Southwick HS) was right there to put in the rebound for the 5-0 lead.

The sixth Owl tally was a beauty, as junior Morgan Remington (Enfield, Conn.) crafted a beautiful free kick from 30 yards out that bent just out of the reach of the Elms keeper and into the back of the net for the 6-0 lead.

Freshman Alexa Bergeron (Methuen, Mass.) capped off the scoring with the first goal of her career. Bergeron put a shot through traffic from the middle of the box, right into the upper corner of the net for the final Owl goal of the day.

Freshman Lauryn Davis (Templeton, Mass.) recorded her second shutout of the 2019 campaign, stopping two Blazer shots on the evening.

Westfield State gets back to MASCAC play on Friday night as they travel to Fitchburg State for a 7:00 p.m. start.

Elms will host NECC opponent New England College on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
