WESTFIELD, Mass. – Eastern Connecticut senior Keira Rogers scored the lone goal of the match midway through the second half as Westfield State dropped a 1-0 non-conference match on the road Wednesday night.
Tori Babineau sent a long ball downfield to Katelyn Herbert who left a pass to Rogers who headed home her first goal of the season to break what was a scoreless tie.
Westfield had limited scoring opportunities in the match and were held without a shot attempt in the first half. In the second half, Eastern held a 12-3 shots advantage with only one Owls shot needing to be saved off the foot of Kiana Muratsuka (Wahiawa, Hawaii). The Warriors outshot the Owls 19-3 on the afternoon.
Junior Kayla Santucci (Agawam, Mass.) put forth a strong effort in the net for Westfield, making seven saves in 70 minutes of action before turning the match over to Mady Harmon (Holden, Mass.) who made a pair of saves.
Westfield State (1-4-1) will return back into MASCAC action this weekend, hosting Salem State on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. from Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass.
