Tomasetti, DeMember Earn Conference Honors
Tomsetti was tabbed the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week while DeMember notched another conference Rookie of the Week honor.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State sophomore defender Kylie Tomasetti (Northborough, Mass.) and first-year midfielder Liv DeMember (West Boylston, Mass.) both received MASCAC weekly honors this past week with Tomasetti named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week while DeMember earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Serving as one of the last line's of defense in the back of the Owls formation, Tomasetti showcased her two-way versatility for Westfield by tallying a pair of goals in Westfield's 3-0 shutout win over Anna Maria on Friday night. Tomasetti has proven to be a weapon on corner kicks as she scored both goals off set pieces to stake the Owls to a 2-0 advantage in the first half. Not only did she make an impact up front, but she also played a role in holding the AMCATS without a shot for the entirety of the match.
In the match on Tuesday against #14 Williams College, Tomasetti consistently got in the shooting lanes by blocking scoring chances away from the net, allowing Westfield to hang in for a half, trailing 1-0 at the break before falling 4-0.
The four-point week moves Tomasetti into a tie for second on the team with seven points, scoring three goals and adding an assist. She has also played a significant role as a sweeper for an Owls defense that has allowed only 1.12 goals against this season.
DeMember gathered conference rookie honors for the third time this season after scoring the Owls third goal of the match in the second half versus Anna Maria to help advance Westfield to 5-0-2 in the MASCAC.
The first-year forward has assumed the role of the team's leading scorer on the season, improving her team-high points total to ten while scoring four times to pace the squad.
Westfield State can lock up a first-round bye in the MASCAC Tournament with a victory in their final game of the regular season as the Owls meet MCLA in a Halloween night match on Friday at 7:00 P.M. from Alumni Field. The match will also be the Owls' Senior Night.
