Owls Swim To Pair of Dual Meet Wins

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State's Alexa Richter (Westfield, Mass.) won three individual events and Jackie Roccabruna (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Kara Banagan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) each won a pair as Westfield State swam to a pair of dual meet wins over Western New England and Gordon College at the Ely Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls out-pointed WNE, 190-76, and Gordon, 144-13. Gordon topped WNE 167-81 in the three-way dual scoring.
Richter topped the 1000 freestyle with a dominating 36-second victory, and took home top honors with a time of 26.50 in the 50 freestyle and 2:20.68 in the 200 backstroke.
Roccabruna took the 200 freestyle in 2:06.98 and the 100 freestyle in a quick 58.08.
Banagan was the meets lone diver, and racked up points in the 1-meter diving with a score of 163.87 and the scored 159 on the three -meter board.
Westfield also tiped the 200 free relay event with the quartet of Richter, Roccabruna, Maddie Bombard (Granby, Mass.) and Katie Colby (Shrewsbury, Mass.) hitting the wall first in 1:51.33 – more than nine seconds ahead of their closest competition in the final event of the day.
Westfield will be back in action at the Ely Pool on Friday, Nov. 15 with a dual meet against Mount Holyoke College.
