Richter Wins Twice, Owls Second at BSU Invite
Westfield State senior Alexa Richter won a pair of events to lead the Owls women’s swimming and diving team to a second-place finish at the Bridgewater State Invitational
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior Alexa Richter won a pair of events to lead the Owls women's swimming and diving team to a second-place finish at the Bridgewater State Invitational meet on Saturday in Bridgewater, Mass.
Richter was tops in the 50 freestyle (26:03) and the 100 individual medley (1:05.46).
Richter led a strong Owls effort in the 50 free where Westfield scored well with four swimmers placing in the top nine to earn points, as Jackie Roccabruna was fourth, Brooklyn Jones sixth, and Katie Colby ninth.
Richter also added a second-place result in the 50 fly.
Other top scoring performances for the Owls included Kara Banagan taking second in the 1 meter diving and third in the 3-meter event. Roccabruna placed second in 100 free, and Dylan Coy picked up a third place finish in the 400 IM.
Westfield's 200 free relay unit of Richter, Madison Bombard, Colby and Roccabruna took second place as well.
Host Bridgewater State easily won the team title with a score of 717 to the Owls 319, followed by WNE (260), RIC (266), UMD (200) and Plymouth State (168).
Westfield will break for finals and the holiday break, before returning to competition with the Seven Sisters Invitational meet at Mount Holyoke College on Jan. 18-19, 2025.
