Owl Women Hurdle to Second Place Showing at CGA Bear Invitational
Westfield State junior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) notched a pair of individual event victories as the Owls earned a second-place team performance at the CGA Bear Invitational from New London, Conn. On Friday night.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) notched a pair of individual event victories as the Owls earned a second-place team performance at the CGA Bear Invitational from New London, Conn. On Friday night.
The Owls totaled 94.50 points on the evening, trailing only host Coast Guard which scored 122 points in an event featuring eight teams.
Lee placed first in both the triple jump (10.84m) and the long jump with her final attempt of 5.36 meters serving as the furthest leap of the night. Lee was also one of three Owls hurdlers which held down the top three spots in the 55-meter hurdles with Devin Whalen (Marblehead, Mass.) winning the event by crossing the tape in 9.06 seconds. First-year Paola Quinones Ramos (Chicopee, Mass.) was third, giving the Owls a total of 24 points in the event.
Westfield received three additional second place performances from Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.), Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.) and Jailene Felix (Westfield, Mass.). Kennedy was second in the 800 in a time of 2:32.93 while Kelly placed second in the 3000 in a time of 11:11.93. Felix, who recently earned the MASCAC Rookie of the Week, was second to cross the finish line in the 400 (1:03.78).
Other notable finishes came from Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.) who was third in the 3000 while Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) was fourth out of 20 runners in the mile.
Westfield State will next be in action on Sunday, February 16 for the MASCAC Indoor Championship meet from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.
