Lee Tops Three Events, Owl Women Second at Coast Guard
Eliza Lee won the 400, the long jump, and the triple jump to headline a strong evening for the Owls.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) won three individual events to headline women's track and field's list of performances as the Owls placed second as a team at the Coast Guard Winter Invite #2 from New London, Conn. on Friday evening.
The Owls finished second overall out of seven teams with 94 points, only trailing the host team Coast Guard. Connecticut College rounded up the top three with 70 points.
Lee secured the top spot in both the long jump and the triple jump, stretching on her final attempt in the long jump for a leading distance of 5.48m. In the triple jump, she leaped to the top mark on her second attempt at a measurement of 11.11m. On the track, Lee tallied a third event victory in the 400, crossing the finish line in 1:02.53.
First-year Emma Daly (Pittsfield, Mass.) also notched an event victory on the evening, clearing the high jump bar at a height of 1.48 meters to earn the maximum ten points in the event. She also collected points in the 55m dash, sprinting across the tape in 7.65 seconds for a sixth place finish.
Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.) and Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) both earned top three spots in the mile with Stevens placing second in 5:26.42 followed by Chandonnet in third at 5:31.06. The two combined for 14 points for the Owls team total.
Devin Whalen (Marblehead, Mass.), Sam Panzeri (Billerica, Mass.), and Emily Ottomaniello (Agawam, Mass.) were all third-place finishers in their respective events. Whalen sprinted and leapt through the 55m hurdles in 9.14 seconds, Panzeri earned an 11:21.41 time in the mile, and Ottomaniello skied to a height of 2.55m in the pole vault.
First-year Bella Coughlin also delivered a strong overall effort. She finished fourth in the 400, fourth in the triple jump (10.20m), and added a point in the 200 with a sixth place time.
Westfield State will have an extra week to prepare for the upcoming 2026 MASCAC Indoor Championship meet which will be held on Sunday, February 15 at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.
