12 Owls Athletes Earn Placement on Women’s Track and Field All-Conference
The Owls placed a league-high 12 athletes on the all-conference team after winning a third straight MASCAC Outdoor Championship title.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – After winning a third straight MASCAC Outdoor Championship, Westfield State women's track and field placed a league-high 12 Owls athletes on the MASCAC All-Conference team.
The Owls took home seven individual titles and swept the relay races on the day. Securing individual event all-conference honors were senior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.), junior Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.), senior Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.), and senior Emily Ottomaniello (Agawam, Mass.).
Lee gathered all-conference accolades in three individual events: the long jump, triple jump, and the 400m hurdles. The 5.65m leap in the long jump was a new MASCAC record and a season best mark for Lee as she is now 31st overall on the national outdoor performance list for Division III. Lee is also the current 44th ranked athlete on the outdoor performance list in the triple jump. In the 400m hurdles, Lee crossed the tape with a top time of 1:07.57.
Stevens earned a pair of individual event honors by winning the 800 and the 1500. She posted a time of 2:22.19 in the 800 then added a 4:57.68 time in the 1500 to gain maximum points for the Owls in both events.
Kelly was the 3000m steeplechase champion, traversing the course with a time of 12:07.90 for a comfortable first-place finish.
Ottomaniello claimed the championship title in the pole vault, sweeping both the indoor and outdoor title meet high marks in the event by clearing the bar at a height of 2.59m.
Lee and Stevens were also part of the Owls trio of relay teams that placed first. Lee ran in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay races as she joined Emma Daly (Pittsfield, Mass.), Bella Coughlin (Taunton, Mass.), and Anjalina Lubarsky (Ludlow, Mass.) in the 4x100 with a winning finish of 49.91 seconds. In the 4x400, Lee and Coughlin teamed up with Julie Richardson (Stoughton, Mass.) and Jailene Felix (Westfield, Mass.) for a top time of 4:16.73.
Stevens raced with Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.), Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.), and Molly Lenehan (Newington, Conn.) in the 4x800-meter race, earning a time of 10:03.34.
The Owls third straight outdoor title came with a team total score of 203 points which was 50 points clear of runner-up Worcester State.
Westfield State women's track and field will now prepare for the Division III New England Championship meet from Springfield College which will commence on Friday and Saturday at 10:00 A.M. for both days.
