WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior middle hitter Brianna Starkey (Rockland, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's volleyball player of the week for Sept. 23, 2019, as sponsored by GEICO.
Starkey led the Owls to a pair of conference wins last week, as the Owls posted a 3-1 win over MCLA and a 3-0 win over Bridgewater State. Westfield is now 6-5 overall and 2-0 and in first place in the conference.
Starkey rapped out a team-high 14 kills and had six digs in the win over MCLA, then added 11 kills and five blocks as the Owls downed Bridgewater. She leads Westfield State in both kills (108) and blocks (28) for the season.
It's the second straight week that the Owls' roster has contained the conference player of the week, as Westfield's Ally Rega earned the honor last week.
Westfield will step out of conference for a midweek game at local rival Elms College on Wednesday, then the Owls travel to Framingham State for a MASCAC matchup between two of the top teams in the league.
