Volleyball Clinches Top Seed and a Share of Conference Crown

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State volleyball locked up the top seed in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament and the Owls also clinched at least a share of the league's regular season title with a 3-0 win at Fitchburg State on Wednesday night.

The Owls improve to 6-0 in the conference, with just one league game remaining on the schedule.

Westfield picks up a share of its first regular season crown since 2013 and has gained a first-round bye and the right to host the league semifinal and championship game should they advance.

Tonight, Westfield spoiled the Falcons senior night with a 25-13, 25-15 25-11 win over Fitchburg.

Senior Brianna Starkey (Rockland, Mass.) led the Owls' efficient attack with 11 kills, while sisters Ashley and Shawna Crowley (Billerica, Mass) added nine and seven apiece.

Senior setter Ally Rega (Chelmsford, Mass.) dished up 27 assists.  Senior libero Lizzie Taylor (Medfield, Mass.) finished with a team best nine digs while junior Jess Haradon (Mansfield, Mass.) added eight.
