Dority Named MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week
Dority racked up 41 digs along with 77 assists in a perfect 3-0 week for the Owls.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior Morgan Dority (Walpole, Mass.) delivered an exceptional week on the court for women's volleyball and was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
Dority recorded 41 digs, three blocks, and 77 assists on the week and led the team in assists and digs in all three matches. She collected 13 digs, a block assist, and 25 assists in the Owls sweep over conference foe Salem State on Wednesday, then added back-to-back matches with 14 digs in a pair of sweeps over Anna Maria and Fisher. Westfield did not drop a set last week, winning all nine sets played.
Across 16 matches, Dority has shown her importance in both the attacking game and the receiving game for the Owls. She is second in the MASCAC with 451 assists, distributing nearly 80 percent of the Owls kills this the season. Dority is also second on the Owls with 166 digs and has recorded ten or more digs in half of her matches.
Dority is approaching top six status in career assists as well with her 1,494 helpers just 14 behind Carolyn Cote '14 who posted 1,508 career assists.
Westfield State (9-8, 2-1 MASCAC) will face Bay Path University for their next match in non-conference action on Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. from the Woodward Center in Westfield, Mass.
