Carnes Named MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week
Carnes knocked down a career-best 21 kills in the Owls 3-1 win at Mass Maritime on Saturday
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State University's Lauren Carnes (Westfield, Mass.) took home the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's women's volleyball Offensive Player of the Week award for the week ending Oct. 26.
Carnes knocked down a career-best 21 kills in the Owls 3-1 win at Mass Maritime on Saturday, and stacked up 13 more in a road win over Framingham midweek. Carnes recorded a .263 hitting percentage for the week.
Carnes, a junior outside hitter, has 126 kills through 13 matches played this season, good for third on the team despite missing nine matches at midseason due to injury.
The two wins ran the Owls conference record to 5-1, and the Owls sit one game back of the top spot in the league. The Owls host a key conference matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 29, facing MCLA at 7:00 at the Woodward Center. MCLA is tied with the Owls for second place in the conference standings, and a first-round playoff bye could hang in the balance of this game. Enhanced video coverage of the game will be available at WestfieldStateOwls.com.
Westfield is 13-9 overall this season.
