Women’s Volleyball Downed at Wellesley
The Owls will face Worcester in the regular season finale next Saturday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's volleyball fell in straight sets to Wellesley College in a non-conference match from Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse in Wellesley, Mass. on Saturday afternoon.
The Owls mini four-game winning streak came to an end, dropping to 14-10 overall while the Blue improve to 11-11 on the season.
Lauren Carnes (Westfield, Mass.) led the Owls with seven kills. Morgan Dority (Walpole, Mass.) earned 14 assists while Zurielys Rivera (Caguas, Puerto Rico) added 12 digs. Westfield had 12 total blocks with three from Carnes, Mary Heneghan (Round Rock, Texas), and Shaneidy Hernandez (Springfield, Mass.).
The Blue had 42 kills on 75 total points in the match led by Kaija Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Minn.) who tallied double figure kills with ten and chipped in a game-high 16 digs. Else Kunze-Hoeg (Eagan, Minn.) racked up 29 assists for Wellesley, which took command of the match early by earning two double digit wins in the opening two frames. The Blue posted a 0.583 hitting percentage in set one.
Westfield State will play one final regular season matchup before gearing up for a run in the MASCAC Tournament as the Owls will visit Worcester State for a conference clash on Saturday, November 8 at 12:00 P.M.
