O’Sullivan, Women’s Cross Country Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams
Westfield State women’s cross country team was selected to NCAA Division III All-Academic list. Amy O’Sullivan named to the All-Academic Athletes team.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State women's cross country team was announced as part of the 2021 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.1 or higher on a 4.0 scale, which includes the most recent grading period.
The Owls posted the highest cumulative team GPA of any state university in the nation at 3.791, edging out Tufts University as the fifteenth ranked team in the nation. A total of 163 programs qualified for the nomination. Along with academic excellence, the Owls were also successful on the course as they won the MASCAC Cross Country Championship for the 15th time in the last 17 seasons.
Senior runner Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) earned a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes list, compiling a cumulative GPA of 3.973 while majoring in math and economics. She also met the requirements of placing in the top 25 percent in her respective regional championship meet. Not only did O'Sullivan meet this standard, but she was the MASCAC individual champion and advanced to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships where she placed 66th in a field of 293 athletes. Overall, 203 women from 105 different institutions were named to the All-Academic Athletes team.
Nebraska Wesleyan University led all schools with a 3.9 GPA.
John Hopkins University was named the National Scholar Team of the Year after winning the team title at the 2021 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships and posting a team GPA at 3.630.
