Owl Women Top 5 at Keene Invite
Reese Stevens was first among Owl runners in 47th place, stopping the clock in 23:14
The Westfield State women's cross country team took home fifth-place honors at the Keene State Invitational, competing against a strong field of 26 teams on Saturday.
Westfield finished with 207 points.
Williams College, ranked second in the nation in the most recent USTFCCCA poll, dominated in winning the race, sweeping the top four placings and putting seven runners in the top 10 to finish with 18 points. #17-Tufts was second with 60 and Colby third with 122. The meet included a pair of regionally ranked teams in Wellesley (4th place)and Amherst (7th place).
Williams' Tamar-Byl-Brynn won the overall indiviaual race with a time of 21:13
Reese Stevens was first among Owl runners in 47th place, stopping the clock in 23:14 on the 6-kilometer course at the Keene Athletic Complex. Julianne Kelly was next in 50th in 23:29 and Shea Hamel 60th in 23:32 as Westfield's top top five were within a 52-second span.
10 of the Owls 14 runners ran personal best marks for the distance or the course.
A total of 288 individual runners competed in the women's race.
Westfield will get the opportunity to compete on their home turf next Saturday, as the Owls host the 28th annual James Earley Invitational meet at Stanley Park. The women's race will gun at 11:30 a.m.
