WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State University claimed the 2025 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women's cross country title, placing seven runners in the top 10 in the race at Stanley Park in Westfield on Saturday.
Westfield won their fifth straight conference crown, and 27th in 40 runnings of the conference championship meet since 1985.
Owls' head coach Marlee Berg was named the league's coach of the year after guiding the women to the title and the Owl men to a second-place finish at today's conference meet.
"These women set the tone in preseason and stood by it since," said Berg. "They have supported, challenged, celebrated and picked each other up all year. Today was a great run by all of them, either setting new or running close to their personal best marks. It's an impressive group from top to bottom; this has been a brilliant season and we're looking forward to regionals in two weeks."
Junior Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.) was first across the finish line today for the Owls in second place overall in 18:33.77 on the 5k course, which also serves as the Owls home course.
Senior Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.) was fourth in 19:05.01, followed by Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) in fifth, Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell Tech) in sixth, Brooke Soucy (Methuen, Mass.) in seventh and Samantha Panzeri (Billerica/Eagle Hill) in eighth. Brynne Lecours (Haverhill, Mass.) rounded out the Owls top seven in 10th place in 19:46.72.
Westfield finished with 24 points, easily outdistancing second place Bridgewater (67 points) and third-place Worcester with 81.
Bridgewater's Naomi Cass won the individual title in 17:59.1.
Westfield will take next week off from competition before competing in the NCAA Mideast Regional at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.
