WESTFIELD, Mass. – Junior forward Emile Pichette (St. Eustache, Quebec) scored twice, but a hattrick goal by Mario Paganini broke a 3-3 tie in the final minute of regulation as Westfield State fell 4-3 in a non-conference game on Tuesday night from Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
After a blank first period, Ravens forward John Sterling (Centreville, Va.) opened the scoring 36 seconds into the second period. Franklin Pierce's lead doubled to 2-0 before Pichette netted a goal in the 11th minute of the second period making the score 2-1.
Late in the third period, the Owls were able to find their stride in setting up the power play after an interference call on the Ravens. Pichette found the back of the net, again this time to tie the game at three going into the final minutes of regulation. The Owls could not get the game into overtime as Paganini tallied his third goal of the night and the game-winning goal with 37 seconds left in regulation.
Owls sophomore goaltender Aiden Winslow (Jacksonville, Fla.) ended the night facing 18 total shots while saving 14 shots. The Owls skaters peppered Ravens goaltender Riley Mastowski (Jamestown, Pa), seeing 31 shots and saving 28 of them.
Westfield State will host Johnson & Wales (RI) in the home opener on Tuesday, November 11th at 7:35pm at Amelia Park Arena in Westfield, Mass.
