WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore center Jesper Seeberg (Lake Worth, Fla.) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner as Westfield State scored twice in the final five minutes to emerge with a 4-2 win over Western Connecticut State University in a non-conference game at the Danbury Ice Arena on Friday afternoon to start 2026.
Seeberg opened the scoring with the first goal of the game in the first period, then broke a 2-2 tie with 4:48 remaining in the game, scoring with assists from Raphael Seguin (Saint Lazare, QC) and Julian Boisclair (Voorhees, N.J.) to put the Owls on top, 3-2.
Xavier Tremblay (Sainte Adele, QC) added an empty netter with 15 seconds left in the third for the final margin.
Westfield improved to 8-4 on the season, while WestConn, a first-year NCAA Division 3 program, dropped to 1-10 on the season.
The match stats were relatively even with the Wolves holding a 33-32 edge in shots, but Westfield won 39 faceoffs to WestConn's 30. The Owls were 1-1 on the power play while the Wolves were 0-2.
Westfield State first-year goalkeeper Russ DeCoste (Enfield, Nova Scotia) made 31 saves for the Owls to earn the win in his first collegiate start. WestConn's Liam Lane stopped 28 shots.
Westfield will be busy this week with a pair of mid-afternoon starts. The Owls will host Keene State in a non=conference matchup at Amelia Park Arena in Westfield on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 1:25 p.m., then host Post University in another non-conference game on Friday, Jan. 9 at 1:25.
