WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Nick Parakilas (Broad Brook, Ct./East Windsor) scored two goals and assisted on a third as Westfield State University men's soccer shot down the Flying Tigers of SUNY-Cobleskill by a 6-1 final score in the Owls season opener at Cobleskill, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon.
Parakilas assisted on Ethan Margolis' (Wakefield, Mass.) goal just 1:49 into the game to stake the Owls to a 1-0 lead, firing a good serve from the left flank, with Margolis heading it in at the back post Parakilas added his first of the day 17 minutes later when Charlie Anischik (S. Hadley, Mass.) served a long ball from near midfield for Parakilas to run on to and bury in the back of the net.
Carter Hebert (Easthampton, Mass.) tallied in the 21st minute, then Hebert fed Parakilas in the 28th minute to establish a 4-0 lead at the half.
Parakilas scored a hat trick in the season-opener against Cobleskill in 2024.
Dylan Wesley (Agawam, Mass.) added a goal and an assist in the second half for Westfield (1-0).
Westfield out shot the Tigers 21-5 and had a 4-1 margin in corner kicks. Marko Kononenko (Kyiv, Ukraine/Monument Mountain) didn't have to make a single save in earning the win for the Owls, while Adam Champlin finished with six saves for Cobleskill (1-1).
Westfield will next play at UMass Dartmouth next Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
