BACK IN BLUE: Fall Seasons Get Rolling This Weekend

Westfield’s fall teams have been back on campus for preseason for up to two weeks with more than 200 student athletes already on campus and working hard for their season debuts.

WESTFIELD, Mass.  --     Westfield State University's Smith Cup-winning athletics program gets back in full swing this weekend as six fall teams kick off the 2025 seasons this weekend.

Owls women's soccer will be first to launch, kicking off with host Colby Sawyer at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in New London, New Hampshire as part of the Chargers season-opening tournament. 

Westfield State field hockey begins their defense of the 2024 MASCAC Crown with a non-conference game against Gordon College at 4:30 p.m. in Northampton, Mass., as part of Smith College's Caryl Newhof Classic Tournament.

Westfield State volleyball will tip off with Springfield College in the Springfield Invitational on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Blake Arena.

Westfield State's men's and women's cross country teams stretch their legs on Saturday with the Keene State Alumni Meet in Keene, N.H.   The teams run a short course 2-kilometer event in the season opener.  The Owl men were third at the  meet in 2024, with Shea Hamel topping the women's individual standings a year ago.  The men's race guns at 10:00 a.m. with the women following at 10:30 a.m. at the Owl Athletic Complex

The Owls 2024 MASCAC Champion men's soccer squad will kick off with a non-conference match at SUNY-Cobleskill on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.   Westfield tipped the Fighting Tigers, 3-0, in last year's opener.

Women's soccer, volleyball and field hockey all continue with tournament action throughout the weekend, check with WestfieldStateOwls.com for tournament results, live stats and video links (where available).

Owls football will kick off their season next Saturday, Sept. 6, with a home game against Castleton State.   Kickoff there will be 1:00 p.m.
