WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State had four different goal scorers, highlighted by a goal and an assist from Dylan Wesley as the Owls posted a 4-0 victory over Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game at Alumni Field on Saturday.
Westfield moves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the MASCAC with the win, while Fitchburg is now 1-3-1 and 0-2 in the MASCAC.
Westfield led 1-0 at the half, getting a goal from Wesley in the 10th minute. The Owls were awarded a free kick on the left side about 20 yards out, and Tim Tkacz fed the ball across the penalty area where Wesley was able to deflect it in in a scrum of players at the back post.
The rest of the opening stanza was relatively evenly played, with Owls outshooting the Falcons 9-5 and holding a 4-2 edge in corners.
Westfield State pulled away in the second half.
Wesley figured in the Owls second goal as well, this time he served the free kick from the right side, across the box for Nick Parakilas to head home from 15 yards out.
The Owls tacked on two more goals, with Sonny Mazza Converting a feed from Aidan Ferguson, and finally Paul Whalley capping a comeback from a knee injury 16 months ago with the Owls fourth goal of the game on a drop pass from Matias Otero to give the Owls the 4-0 final.
Marko Kononenko registered his third win in goal, finishing with seven saves.
Malcolm Edwards made five saved for the Falcons.
Westfield State wll be back in action at home on Saturday with a 7:00 kick against Rivier.
