Owls Start Fla. Trip with 18-10 Win Over Plymouth State

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Graduate student Christina Roncarati (East Longmeadow, Mass./Pope Francis) scored eight goals to power the Owls, as Westfield State topped Plymouth State, 18-10 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game as part of the Spring Fling Tournament in Panama City Beach, Fla. on Tuesday morning.

Roncarati, a grad transfer from Division I St. Francis (Pa.) University, scored four of the Owls first eight goals as Westfield State got out to an 8-3 lead in the first 24 minutes.

Westfield State improves to 2-3 on the season, while Plymouth State is now 1-4

Owls senior attack Mercedes Rozzi (S. Burlington, Vt.) added four goals and an assist. Marena Morales  (Tolland, Conn.) netted three goals, and first-year Kayli Bush (Westfield, Mass.) scored a pair of goals.

Plymouth was led by four goals and two assists from Morgan Cunningham. Eve Goodreau tallied three goals.

Westfield State got 16 saves from senior GK Izzy Conley (N. Salem, N.Y.).  Caitlin Snow (3 saves) and Emily Griggs (2 saves) split time in goal for the Panthers.  

Plymouth State outshot the Owls 31-25 and held a 17-14 advantage in draw controls.  Westfield cashed in on four of seven free position shots.

Westfield State will complete their Florida trip with a game against Hamilton College on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Panama City Beach.
