Women’s Lacrosse Visits Worcester for MASCAC Championship on Saturday
The Owls seek a third conference title in the last four seasons and will face the Lancers at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's lacrosse is back in the MASCAC Championship game as the second-seeded Owls visit top-seeded Worcester State in the conference title game on Saturday at 12:00 P.M. from Coughlin Field in Worcester, Mass.
WHAT'S AT STAKE: The winner of tomorrow's game receives the MASCAC's automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Lancers (13-5) are in search of back-to-back conference championships, defeating Framingham State 13-11 last year. The Owls (10-8) won consecutive championships in 2023 and 2024, winning their most recent championship on the road at Framingham as the second seed in 2024.
ROAD TO THE FINALS: Both teams earned first-round byes after claiming the top two seeds in the tournament. The Owls won a thrilling matchup against Bridgewater State with Christina Roncarati (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scoring the game-winner with 26 seconds left in regulation to lift Westfield to a 9-8 win. The Lancers held off an early push from fourth-seeded Framingham, using a dominant second quarter to breeze into the championship game by a final of 12-5.
REGULAR SEASON MEETING: Worcester secured championship hosting honors by defeating Westfield 19-14 on Alumni Field in the second to last game of the regular season. The Owls led 6-5 after the first quarter and outscored the Lancers 7-4 in the second half, but a second quarter in which the Lancers scored ten times to the Owls lone marker was ultimately the difference.
Shannon Donahue scored a game-high six goals and Fallon Lozano totaled six points with four goals and a pair of assists. Marena Morales led all players with eight points on four goals and four assists and Roncarati fronted the Owls attack with five goals in the matchup.
