Tomasetti Scores Twice as Owls Blank AMCATS 3-0
Tomasetti tallied two goals, and the Owls held Anna Maria without a shot in a 3-0 road victory on Friday night.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Kylie Tomasetti (Northborough, Mass.) scored two goals in the first half to help guide Westfield State to a three-nil shutout win over Anna Maria College in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match from Paxton, Mass. on Friday night.
The Owls have yet to suffer a regulation loss in conference play, advancing to 5-0-2 in the MASCAC and 6-5-6 on the season. Anna Maria falls to 1-4-1 in the league and 1-11-2 overall.
Tomasetti connected for the opening goal of the match just 2:27 into the action, coming off a corner kick after Kiana Muratsuka (Wahiawa, Hawaii) nearly scored on a shot that was deflected by Kortney Clark and out of play.
Morgan Berthiaume (Webster, Mass.) stepped into the corner try and floated the ball into the back of the box, deflecting off Tomasetti and crossing the goal line before Anna Maria could sweep it off the end line.
With 15 minutes left in the half, the Tomasetti-Berthiaume connection struck again on another corner kick with the ball lofted to a similar area in the box. Tomasetti was able to get a head on the ball, sneaking the header inside the post to double the Owls lead.
Liv DeMember (Westfield Boylston, Mass.) tallied a third Westfield goal early in the second half, netting her fourth of the campaign for a 3-0 lead.
The Owls played a suffocating style of play throughout the game and held Anna Maria without a shot for the full ninety minutes, outshooting the AMCATS 21-0 (15-0 in the first half). Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) secured the win in a shot-free outing between the pipes.
Westfield State is currently in second place in the MASCAC standings with one match remaining in the regular season as the Owls will host MCLA on Halloween night on Friday at 7:00pm as part of Senior Night from Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass.
