Women’s Track and Field Win MASCAC Indoor Title!
The Owls won five individual events and two team relay races to cruise to the conference championship title.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Four different Owls athletes claimed individual event victories to go along with two team relay race wins as Westfield State women's track and field dominated the 2026 MASCAC Indoor Championship to secure their second consecutive indoor title on Sunday evening from Wheaton College in Norton Mass.
The Owls rolled to a team total of 250 points, finishing 117 points ahead of Bridgewater State who were the runner-up with 113 points. Senior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) won two events while Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.), Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.), and Emily Ottomaniello (Agawam, Mass.) all won individual events.
Lee climbed up to 15th place on the Division III National Indoor Qualifying list with a first-place leap in the long jump at a distance of 5.67m. She then comfortably won the triple jump with a hop, skip, and jump of 10.79m, earning 20 points in the two events combined. She also recorded eight points and second place in the 400 (1:02.58), six points in the 60m hurdles, and four points in the 200. She also logged personal record times in both 60m dash and 60m hurdles preliminary stages.
Hamel crossed the tape first in the 1000 with a time of 3:20.72 and was also third in the 5000 and fourth in the 3000, totaling 20 points for the Owls.
Stevens was the top finisher in the 800, checking in with a time of 2:26.04 to gather all-conference honors. She also recorded a personal record in the mile, placing second with a time of 5:20.47.
Ottomaniello was the pole vault champion, clearing the bar at a height of 2.55 meters for ten points while also registering points towards the Owls team total in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
Westfield won two of the three races on the night in the 4x200 and 4x800 relays. Lee was joined by Jailene Felix (Westfield, Mass.), Anjalina Lubarsky (Ludlow, Mass.), and Ava Lapa in the 4x200 with a team time of 1:52.02. In the 4x800, Stevens contributed with Molly Lenehan (Newington, Conn.), Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.), and Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) for a collective time of 10:35.74.
The Owls dominated several events, including the 1000, long jump, 3000, and the mile. In the 1000, Brooke Soucy (Methuen, Mass.) was a top three finisher with Hamel, logging a PR time of 3:26.63. The Owls had four of the top five runners in the event and tallied 22 points, the most in a single event.
Westfield went one, two, five in the long jump with first-year athlete Bella Coughlin trailing only her teammate Lee after a personal-record leap of 5.17m earned her second with eight points. The Owls churned out 20 points in the event. Coughlin also finished top three in the 400 with a time of 1:05.67.
The Owls added 19 points in both the mile and the 3000. Stevens, Chandonnet, and Sam Panzeri (Billerica, Mass.) finished two, three, four in the mile then Chandonnet and Panzeri were also second and third in a group with Hamel and Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.) in the 3000 where the Owls claimed four of the top six point-getting spots.
Lubarsky, Julie Richardson (Stoughton, Mass.), Devin Whalen (Marblehead, Mass.), and Paige Brandt (Woodbury, Conn.) all delivered second place efforts for the Owls. Lubarksy set a personal best time in the 60m dash in 8.11 seconds for eight points. Richardson's 1:45.99 time came in the 600 while Whalen crossed the line in 9.78 seconds in the 60m hurdles. Brandt joined Ottomaniello atop the pole vault ranks with a clearing height of 2.40m.
First-year athlete Emma Daly (Pittsfield, Mass.) set two personal records in the 60m dash (8.24 seconds) and the 200 (27.58 seconds) and was also third in the high jump at 1.47m in what was an all-around sound effort.
Faith McCormack (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Lenehan also logged PRs in separate events. McCormick in the 600 and Lenehan in the 800 where she took third overall at a time of 2:34.28.
Westfield State competing athletes will have one final chance to qualify for the New England Division III Championships with the last chance postseason qualifier being held on Saturday, February 21 before joining qualified Owls athletes in Boston for the NED3 Championships on March 1 and 2.
