Volleyball Drops Two at Springfield Tournament

Westfield State volleyball dropped a pair of matches at the Joel Dearing Classic Tournament at Springfield College’s Blake Arena on Saturday, falling to the host Pride by a 3-0 final, and then to Keene State, 3-0 in the Owls second match of the day.

WESTFIELD, Mass.  –  Westfield State volleyball dropped a pair of matches at the Joel Dearing Classic Tournament at Springfield College's Blake Arena on Saturday, falling to the host Pride by a 3-0 final, and then to Keene State, 3-0 in the Owls second match of the day.

In the opener, Springfield (1-1) won by scores of 25-8, 25-19, and 25-8.  The Pride posted 41 kills to Westfield's 14, led by 10 from Riley Donahue.  Three players recorded three kills each for the Owls.  Chloe Schuld (Sycamore, Ill.) led Westfield with eight digs.

In the nightcap, Keene topped the Owls 25-16, 25-17, 25-19.

Westfield got six kills from Emma Nihill (Chandler, Az.)and five kills from Hannah Nihill (Chandler, Az.). Julia Dangel-Garcia (Ashland, Mass.)dished out 10 assists and Morgan Dority (Walpole, Mass.) nine.  Sydney Cummins (Nicholasville, Ky.) topped the squad with eight digs.   Marina Miller led Keene with 10 kills and 10 digs, while Alexis Small dished out 33 assists.

Keene improved to 1-1 on the season, while Westfield starts the year 0-3.
