The Westfield State University women’s volleyball team fell in the MASCAC Championship game to Bridgewater State in a five-set thriller from the Woodward Center in Westfield, Mass. on Saturday.
Westfield State senior Sarah Bingham (Reno, Nev.) registered a team-high 11 kills while adding four blocks and three aces as the top-seeded Owls clawed past fifth-seeded Worcester State in four sets (25-21, 25-18, 15-25, 25-23) in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinal game from the Woodward Center in Westfield, Mass. (25-21, 25-18, 15-25, 25-23).
As the regular season wrapped up, the Westfield State women’s volleyball team was selected the number one-seed heading into the conference tournament. On Thursday, November 14, the Owls will take on the fifth-seeded Worcester State Lancers in the semifinals of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference playoffs.
Earning the top seed and first round bye, the Owls finished a perfect 7-0 in league play this season.
Junior Emma Nihill (Chandler, Ariz.) registered a game-high nine kills and added two block assists to lead Westfield State to a sweep over Fitchburg State (25-14, 25-14, 25-12) in the MASCAC regular season finale from the Woodward Center in Westfield, Mass.
For the sixth time this season, Sydney Cummins was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Week and also claimed the league's Offensive Player of the Week for the second time after helping secure the number one seed in the MASCAC Tournament for Westfield this upcoming postseason.
