WESTFIELD, Mass. – As the holiday weekend ends, the Westfield State women's volleyball team had a few stars that shined bright. The Owls took a clean sweep of the player of the week honors as first-year Sydney Cummins (Nicholasville, Ky.) received both the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors while senior Julia Bartiet (Cheshire, Conn.) was named the conference Defensive Player of the Week.
For Cummins, this is the fourth time making an appearance as a MASCAC Player of the Week representative, this time winning two awards. Cummins led the Owls to a 2-0 record this week with one of those wins against MASCAC opponent Framingham State. Over the two-game span, Cummins tallied 28 kills, 19 digs, four blocks and a pair of service aces. Last week's performance places Cummins second in the MASCAC for kills per set at 2.58 and third for total kills at 147.
Bartiet had a dominant week at the net over the two matches. Through both games, she accumulated a total of 15 blocks and seven digs to help boost the Owls to 2-0 on the week. Bartiet is now fifth in the MASCAC for total blocks at 33 and fifth for blocks per set at 0.65.
Bartiet has registered 164 total blocks in 95 career matches which is currently fifth all-time in program history.
Cummins, Bartiet and the Owls will be back in action Wednesday, October 15 at 6:00 P.M. as the Owls (2-0 MASCAC) travel to Salem State for another conference matchup.
