WESTFIELD, Mass. – A poor shooting first half doomed the Owls, as Westfield State fell to Roger Williams University, 90-76 in the first game following the winter break at Bristol, R.I. on Monday afternoon.
The Owls shot just 29 percent from the floor, 0-4 from three-point range and 4-12 from the foul line in the first 20 minutes in falling behind 37-22 at the half.
Roger Williams came out of the break on a 15-5 run to take their largest lead of the game up to that point. Westfield State would then put on the full court press to help cut into the RWU deficit. The Owls managed to pull within 12 with 5:31 to play.
Roger Williams had four players finish in double-figures in scoring, led by 23 from Rich Pugilese.
Roger Williams (8-3) will next play Thursday, January 2 at Worcester State, while Westfield State (7-5) will be in action on Sunday, January 5 at Wheaton (MA) at 2:00pm
