Roncarati Nets 100th Career Goal, Owls Rout AMCATS 19-1
Christina Roncarati scored her 100th career goal as part of a seven-point night as Westfield improved to 4-0 in the MASCAC.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Graduate attacker Christina Roncarati (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her 100th career goal as part of a seven-point night for Westfield State which dismantled Anna Maria 19-1 in a MASCAC game from Caparso Field in Paxton, Mass. on Wednesday.
The Owls (7-7, 4-0 MASCAC) wasted no time asserting control, scoring six times in the opening quarter with Roncarati scoring her 100th career goal after receiving a pass from Brooke Oliveri (Somers, Conn.), spinning past her nearest defender before ripping a shot inside the near post for a 4-0 lead. The Owls built an 11-0 lead by halftime with Roncarati closing the frame with consecutive goals. Westfield State continued to pour it on in the second half with five goals in the third quarter and added three more in the fourth, showcasing depth and efficiency across the offensive unit as nine different players got in the scoring column.
Westfield State's attack was led by its top three scorers, all of whom played pivotal roles in the lopsided victory. Roncarati led the way with a game-high six goals, consistently finishing chances and adding a power-play tally. Marena Morales (Tolland, Conn.) followed with three goals and two assists, contributing across the stat sheet while helping control possession with a game-high five draw controls. Kayli Bush (Westfield, Mass.) also netted three goals and capped the scoring with the Owls 19th goal of the night to set a season high in scoring for Westfield.
The Owls' offense was bolstered by strong playmaking, particularly from Arianna Andresen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), who dished out six assists and ran her career point total to 95, and Oliveri, who added four assists and two goals. Westfield State finished with 19 draw controls and forced 19 turnovers, keeping Anna Maria on its heels throughout the game.
Defensively, the Owls were just as impressive, limiting Anna Maria to just one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Lexi Emanuele (Griswold, Conn.) earned the win and Leah Burchman (Griswold, Conn.), last week's conference defensive player of the week, anchored a unit that allowed just a single third-quarter goal from Megan Tegethoff. She tallied five ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Westfield State continues to roll in conference play and their final three games of the season will be against conference opponents beginning on Friday as the Owls visit Salem State for a 7:00 P.M. first draw.
