WESTFIELD, Mass. – Kiki McNary (Brattleboro, Vt.) and Liv DeMember (West Boylston, Mass.) both scored goals as Westfield State tied UMass Boston 2-2 in a non-conference road match on Wednesday night.
The Owls move to 5-4-5 on the season while the Beacons are now 5-6-3.
Westfield had the lead on two separate occasions in the match with DeMember notching her third goal of the season in the 28th minute off an assist from Gabby Stolfi (Newington, Conn.).
The Owls took a 1-0 advantage into the second half where Sofia Schallmo deposited the first of two goals on the night with just under 35 minutes left in regulation. Less than five minutes later, Westfield would push ahead thanks to McNary who delivered her first marker of the season to give the Owls a 2-1 lead.
Westfield maintained a one-goal advantage into the final ten minutes of the contest before Schallmo answered with her team-leading eighth goal of the season to tie the match and secure a draw.
The Beacons held a slim 14-12 shots advantage in the game, but only five of their shots reached goal. Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) got the start and made one save before Katie Valentine (Oxford, Mass.) entered in the second half to make two stops.
Westfield State will return home for their next match as the Owls host Framingham State in a conference game on Saturday at 12:00 P.M. The Owls have not suffered a conference loss yet and have positioned themselves for a chance at the number one overall seed heading into the conference tournament.
