Vawn Lord scored 22 points to lead Westfield State, as the Owls held off Fitchburg State, 82-77 in MASCAC men’s basketball at the Parkinson Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Owls are believed to have clinched the #2 seed in the conference tournament by virtue of tie breakers held vs. Fitchburg and Bridgewater, regardless of the outcomes on Saturday, pending confirmation from the league office.

Westfield State got 24 points and 10 rebounds from junior forward Jauch Green, Jr. (Cromwell/Hartford, Conn.), but the Owls ultimately fell to Union College, 73-67 in the title game of the Sig Makofski Tournament in Schenectady, N.Y.
