WESTFIELD, Mass. --- Westfield State women's soccer got three different goal scorers as the Owls defeated Salem State, 3-0 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday at Alumni Field.
Westfield improves to 2-0 in the league and 2-4-1 overall, while Salem State is now 5-1-1 and 2-1 in the conference.
Westfield broke out of a scoring slump that saw them score one goal or less in each of their first six games of the season.
The Owls got on the scoreboard first in the 37th minute, with defender Kylie Tomasetti coming forward to head home a corner kick from Morgan Berthiaume. Westfield added a second goal before the intermission, when a Salem State defender poked the ball loose in the 41st minute, but the ball went directly to Westfield's Julianna Lanzillo near the top of the 18 to blast home the goal and give the Owls a 2-0 lead.
The Owls added the third marker of the day in the 53rd minute, with Olivia Crooks and Kiana Muratsuka playing keep away on the left side of the penalty area with Muratsuka feeding a pass back to Crooks for the goal.
Westfield outshot the Vikings 25-4 on the afternoon (and 20-1 in the first half). Westfield's Julia Robak made two saves on the day the toughest coming when deflecting away a corner kick from Salem's Krysta Zamejtis in the 68th minute.
