WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State first-year midfielder Liv DeMember (West Boylston, Mass.) scored the first collegiate goal of her career as part of a 1-1 draw against Bridgewater State in a MASCAC match on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Owls are now 2-0-1 in conference play and 2-4-3 overall while the Bears move to 3-0-1 in the MASCAC and 3-5-1 on the season.
DeMember got Westfield out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring off an assist from Olivia Crooks (Wilbraham, Mass.) inside the 20th minute.
Westfield maintained the lead all the way into the middle of the second half before Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.), the league's top goal scorer, collected a pass from Caroline McCormack (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and fired home the equalizer at the 72nd minute for her seventh marker of the campaign.
Julianna Lanzillo (Chelmsford, Mass.) looked to answer two minutes after the Bears goal, but Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) made a save to keep the match tied.
The Owls defense was stingy throughout the match, holding the Bears to just four total shots to the Owls 10. Both goalies saw relatively limited action in net as both Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) and Levesque made one save apiece. Westfield also doubled up Bridgewater in corner kicks at an 8-4 clip.
Westfield State will return home for a three game homestand starting on Wednesday as the Owls host Western New England at 7:00 P.M. from Alumni Field.
