#2 ‘Tis the Season to be Dunking: Men’s Basketball Wins MASCAC Title
The men's basketball team powered through the MASCAC to win their second consecutive conference championship. Senior forward Justin Rennis capped his Westfield playing career as the honoree of the Senior Male Athlete of the Year for Owls athletics.
The high-flying Owls men's basketball team recorded a memorable season filled with highlight-reel plays and championship performances most notably from Brendon Hamilton who grabbed 26 rebounds and 16 points to help guide the Owls to back-to-back MASCAC Championships.
Westfield defeated Worcester State in front of a roaring Woodward Center crowd by a score of 80-66 as the Owls punched their ticket into the NCAA Tournament for a second consecutive year.
Senior forward Justin Rennis capped his Westfield State playing career as the recipient of the Senior Male Athlete of the Year for captaining the Owls to a 22-5 record and a tournament bid while also being named to the All-Conference First Team.
Men's basektball alumni also caught national headlines this past spring, where Westfield State alumnus Chris Caputo '02 was named as the new men's basketball head coach at George Washington University. This season, George Washington is off to a 6-4 start under the leadership of Caputo.
