WESTFIELD, Mass. – A total of 156 Westfield State student-athletes were named to the 2024 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Winter/Spring All-Academic Team as released earlier today by conference Commissioner Angela Baumann.
The Owls along with Bridgewater State both placed 16 percent of the total number of student-athletes on the team which tied for the highest percentage among conference institutions.
The Owls combined academic achievement and athletic success once again this year as Westfield earned the Howard C. Smith Cup as the conference's top athletic institution for the fourth straight year.
In particular, the two MASCAC-championship-winning programs for the Owls from the spring season, women's lacrosse and women's track and field, placed over 80 percent of the teams' student-athletes onto the league's all-academic team.
To be recognized as a MASCAC All-Academic honoree, student-athletes must compete in a championship varsity sport during the course of the 2024 winter and spring seasons while achieving a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester.
A total of 1,005 student-athletes throughout the conference were honored.
