Final Instructions & Department Guidelines for August Preseason 2024

If you have decided not to play, please notify the Head Coach.
Please check your Westfield email account for information from the Head Coach regarding arrival to campus. You will have a short time to move in your belongings and say your good-byes. You will then report to the Woodward Center to see the Athletic Trainers for a Musculoskeletal Exam. Please be wearing shorts and a t-shirt for this session. You will receive equipment, meet with your team, and attend meals.
More information:
1. All athletes who are resident students must participate fully by living in the residence hall during camp.
2. Students must adhere to all rules and regulations listed on the Preseason Guidelines.
3. Athletes are encouraged to bring snacks, drinks, and a fan in addition to their personal belongings.
4. Athletes may want to bring one pair of shoes for natural grass and one pair for athletic field turf. Metal tips are not allowed on the field turf.
5. Coaches may make cuts at their discretion any time during preseason, at which time cut players will be required to leave camp and return on the report date for students.
6. As part of team equipment, you will receive a practice roll that includes shorts and a shirt to wear to practices.
7. Student-athletes (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year) may bring cars to preseason and park in lots designated for students.
8. Generally, student-athletes are not allowed to leave campus during August preseason unless approved by the coach.
9. Meals are provided during preseason (through August 31) and are mandatory.
Preseason Guidelines:
All rules and regulations of the State of Massachusetts, Westfield State University and the Housing Authority will be adhered to with the added regulations set forth by the Athletics Department; being such that we are guests in the halls, all coaches and athletes are to act accordingly. Student-Athletes will be released from preseason if guidelines are not adhered to.
For emergencies while on campus, or assistance in the residential halls for the Resident Director call 413-572-5262.
- ALCOHOL, MARIJUANA, CIGARETTES, E-CIGARETTES, AND/OR ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES are NOT allowed in the residence halls by anyone connected with athletics during the entire preseason or winter break period. Any of these rules being broken will be followed by immediate dismissal and/or team suspension.
- Those listed as occupying the hall and/or room will be held responsible for any damages leading to charges.
- In the Residential Halls:
- Do not switch rooms
- Do not move furniture or micro fridges
- Do not cut hair
- Do not leave ice bags in the sinks or toilets-dispose of properly
- Hold team meetings that do not involve coaches-NO HAZING
- Dispose of trash in the common areas.
- Any loss of key, damage or extra required cleaning will cost the athlete and his/her team the full cost incurred.
- Please take your own trash to the dumpsters outside of the building. There will be limited cleaning service during preseason. This includes common areas.
- VISITORS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE RESIDENCE HALLS.
- Violations of alcohol, guest, or noise policies, instances of abuse or unauthorized use of College facilities, or any other significant infraction of policy will result in immediate removal of the resident from the residence halls for the remainder of preseason or winter break.
- There will be a NIGHTLY CURFEW of 11:00 p.m. for athletes.
- Coaches are responsible for their teams and will be held responsible throughout the preseason or winter break for their conduct. Coaches are expected to be with their teams at all times with the exception of being in the Residence Halls. No unsupervised team meetings or activities are to take place during preseason. Athletes are not allowed to leave campus during camp unless approved by their coach.
- Footwear must be worn in the cafeteria and cleaning up after yourself is required. A staff member must check your name off before entering.
- Athletes are expected to stay the entire preseason period with the exception of being released from the team. Students being released or leaving camp must also return all issued equipment to the equipment room before departing campus.
- Student-athletes must leave their cars in the commuter lot or student lots. Do not park in faculty/staff parking spaces. Student-Athletes are expected to walk to Woodward.
