Burnett Honored as WSU Male Athlete of the Year
Burnett’s record-setting season concludes with being named top senior male athlete of 2025.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Dan Burnett (Granville, Mass.) was honored as the 2025 Westfield State University Male Athlete of the Year, presented during Westfield's senior athletic awards ceremony on May 5. The Men's Athlete of the Year award is presented to a standout senior student-athlete in their respective sport.
Burnett, a senior utility player for the Owls baseball team, recorded a .410 batting average, 14 home runs, 12 doubles, five triples and 61 runs batted in this season. He set the school record for most home runs and runs batted in for a single season. He is currently the school record holder for total bases in a season with 119 and he finished second in runs scored in a season with 51. He secured a spot within the program's .400-hit club as well.
Burnett was awarded MASCAC All-Conference First Team honors this season to bring his career total to two as in the 2022-23 season he earned the honors. He led the MASCAC with an .856 slugging percentage and 30 extra base hits. He was second in the conference in home runs and runs batted in and third in batting average.
Burnett has been a three-year starter for the Owls where in that span at Westfield he had a career batting average of .378, 23 home runs, 94 runs batted in, and 56 total extra base hits. In 2023, he was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Division III All-Region Team for region two and could very well end up gathering a second all-region recognition this season. Burnett's time comes to close at Westfield but his legacy will carry on as he is the all-time leader in career slugging percentage at .736 and third all-time in career home runs with 23, reaching that mark in just 80 career games played.
