WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Westfield State University athletics celebrated it's annual Student Athlete Advisory Committee Senior and Awards night on May 4 with a celebration and pizza reception at the Woodward Center.

Westfield State Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff Dr. Michael Freeman delivered greetings on behalf of President Dr. Linda Thompson, and lauded the athletes on their accomplishments on the field of play, in the classroom, and in the community.

"It's not just about the physical attributes that we recognize tonight," said Freeman.  "It is also the mental, and emotional strength in yourself, in both academics and athletics. Tonight we recognize the accomplishments and achievements this year as teams, individuals.  Teamwork is not just about playing together on the court or fields, it's about learning how to support one another through success and failure, how to rise together after a loss or how to celebrate as one."

 "You inspire us all," he added. "Your efforts remind us, on this campus, that with dedication, hard work, and a small team around you, anything is possible! When you're on the field, track or in the pool, you embody spirit, dedication, perseverance, and passion."

Westfield State seniors Julianne Kelly from cross country and track and field, and track and field senior Jace Falcone emceed the ceremony.

The Owls all-conference and all-region performers were recognized, and each team celebrated its team award winners. Graduating senior student athletes received a gift and their "student-athlete" stoles for graduation.

The new members of the Chi Alpha Sigma athletics honor society received their medalions.

The athletics department honored the major award winners, who will be detailed in individual press releases over the next week.
