12 Owls Earn Placement on CSC Academic All-District At-Large Teams
Student-athletes from Owls field hockey, ice hockey, and women’s lacrosse were recognized on the at-large team.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State field hockey, ice hockey, and women's lacrosse teams placed 12 student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® At-Large Teams, recognizing student-athletes for their combined performance in the classroom and on the field.
For field hockey, seniors Maddy Barry (Norwood, Mass.) and Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) along with junior Lee Gould (Southborough, Mass.) were honored. Seniors Cooper Board (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), William Chausse (La Prairie, Quebec), Raphael Seguin (Saint-Lazare, Quebec), junior Emile Pichette (Saint-Eustache, Quebec), and sophomores Louis Ouellet (Baie-Comeau, Quebec) and Aiden Winslow (Jacksonville, Fla.) were the Owls ice hockey representatives. And for women's lacrosse, senior captains Erin Dyckman (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Mercedes Rozzi (South Burlington, Vt.) along with sophomore Marena Morales (Tolland, Conn.) rounded up the 12 selections for the Owls.
To be eligible for selection onto the CSC Academic All-District® At-Large team, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, must be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, and must have appeared in at least 90 percent of games or had started in over 66 percent of games played on the season. A maximum of six male and six female athletes were allocated for each institution.
The "At-Large" distinction specifically honors athletes competing in sports that do not have their own standalone Academic All-America programs.
The trio of Barry, Murphy, and Gould all earn all-district honors for a second consecutive year while also winning their second straight MASCAC Championship title after a record-setting 18-win campaign including a perfect 14-0 against conference opponents in the regular season and postseason combined. All three student-athletes were MASCAC all-conference selections with Murphy also named one of three Westfield State University's Female Athletes of the Year.
Owls ice hockey reached a historic achievement of their own this past season, reaching the MASCAC Championship game for the first time in program history while compiling an 18-8-2 record. Board is a three-time CSC Academic All-District At-Large selection and was also named the Westfield State University Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and an all-conference first team selection. Pichette and Seguin receive at-large representation for a second consecutive season.
Women's lacrosse also reached the conference championship game this season with Dyckman, Morales, and Rozzi serving as key contributors to the team as all three were MASCAC all-conference players. Rozzi was the recipient of Westfield State University's Peter Mazza Contributions to Athletics Award for her combined efforts in academics, athletics, community engagement, and leadership.
